The boys’ track team gained their first win against Thurston High School 87-41. To start the meet, Carl Ware took first place in both the Shot Put and the Discus throwing a 37’2.5″ and a 103’11”, respectively. Layton Martin scored the team a point by taking 3rd place in the shot put with a 35’9″.

The RU boys were very impressive in the long jump. Nick Dent took first place with a 19’8″ and Daniel Mathews took second place with an 18’10”. Dwayne Kennebrew jumped JV, but score himself a varsity position by jumping an staggering 19’4″.

Kenneth Perry took first place in both the high jump, 5’5″, and the 100M Dash with an 11.28. Amir Rasheed rounded out the high jump with a 3rd place finish, jumping a 5’0″.

Some of the distance racing highlights were Chandler Shettleroe (5:38) and Nick Stackhouse (5:40) taking first and second place in the 1600M, mile run. Jack Shroat, Anthony Lovejoy and Nick Stackhouse swept the 3200M, two mile race with a 12:08, 13:09, and a 13:33.

Middle distance did a very nice job. Clifford Stafford and JuJuan Stokes took first and second place in the 400M run with a 55.12 and a 58.34. Arriyaun Mathews took second place in the 800M with a 2:25.

Along with Kenneth Perry taking first place in the 100M dash, Keion Brown took second place with an 11.39. Samir Rasheed and Nick Dent took first and second in the 200M dash with a 24.08 and a 24.18. Although he ran in the JV, Andrew Draper ran a 23.9, securing himself a varsity position.

Samir and Amir Rasheed took first and second place in the 110M hurdles with a 15.94 and a 17.02.

Finally Redford Union won the 3200M relay and the 400M relay.

Overall, the first meet of the season was a success.
